Fairytale
They've got cars big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It's no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold christmas eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me
In 1987, a singer named Kirsty MacColl had a hit single with a lovely little song, co-written by Shane MacGowan (with Jem Finer) and performed with Shane and the Pogues. The song was called "The Fairytale of New York" and appeared on the Pogue's album "If I Should Fall From Grace with God". This month, the song has entered the UK Top 10 for the third time.

Kirsty MacColl had a long and not always overtly successful career in the music industry and was married for some time to Steve Lillywhite, a well-known British music producer and father of her two children.
This lovely lady with the fabulous voice was killed on December 18, 2000 while on holiday with her partner and children in Cozumel, Mexico when she was run down whilst pushing one of her children out of the way of a jetboat, owned by Mexican supermarket millionaire Guillermo González Nova, who was on board with several members of his family and which was allegedly travelling too fast in a diver's only area where boats were restricted to a 1 knot speed limit. Kirsty was killed instantly.
She was 41.
Sometimes the fairytale ending is not what one expects.
The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing Galway Bay
And the bells were ringing out
For christmas day
